Hot Property presents recent works by Canberra artist and Strathnairn studio holder Katie Hayne. Continuing her long-term interest in recording our urban environment, Hayne documents the rapidly changing landscapes of Canberra’s north-west corridor. Drawing on her observations of construction sites in the emerging neighbourhoods of Whitlam and Ginninderry, these paintings capture landscapes in transition at the city’s edge.
In her latest series, Hayne incorporates fluorescent grounds to reference the visual language of construction—high-visibility clothing, plastic packaging, survey markers and building materials. Layering imagery of new suburbs, Hayne’s paintings explore the intersections of human habitation, aspiration and environmental impact.
